I have a question
OK, so us city types have heard that jackals and sheep farmers are sworn enemies. Jackals eat sheep, right? Obvious thing to do is to kill the jackals. Us city types never think about what farmers do with the carcasses. In mid-July 2013 we found out. We were driving on a dirt section of the R369 between Prieska and Hopetown in the Northern Cape, when, whoooaaaaa, what the hell? We stopped. Someone had strung up 13 black-backed jackal and two caracal on a barbed-wire fence next to the road. We got out. The stench was truly foul. We assumed the farmer haddunit. But why?
